Robert Cole’s Wednesday May 30th Blog

Some incredibly exciting news: A dog runs about 1600km following cyclists in China. After being fed the canine ran about 60 km a day. That’s both hunger and commitment . There were a couple of mountains involved. That is real work ethic. On top of that I read that monkeys are really a pest in Delhi and they had even attacked a vice mayor causing him to fall off a tall building. One of the only ways to keep them out of your yard is to hire the handler of a larger meaner monkey to allow his monkey to pee around your yard. And I learned that the tomato has more genes than the human and that it shares 92% of genes with its cousin the potato. Can you imagine this news shown to the tomato on one of those who are you related to shows.

On my way to buy Dr. Pepper Ten I passed by the magazines and looked at the cover of Scientific American and was greeted by a story that stated that there are ten times as many nonhuman cells in our bodies than human cells. I wonder if they totally take over at times of stress or maybe boredom. I recall looking up at some of my students on a Friday afternoon and seeing an aura that must have been caused by that situation. During some faculty meetings I am sure that it was the take over of the nonhuman bacteria that cause some of my more caustic comments. Now I am thinking would it be possible to reproduce by simply splitting at a time of extreme take over by the nonhuman cells? Perhaps that will become a three part novel which will be made into four movies.

Now to all of you who are graduates or finishing the school year or finding a job or doing the many other things that are steps in his journey of life I congratulate you. Remember whatever you do if you fail you can blame it on the nonhuman cells. That’s better than blaming parents, teachers or even you pets. Have a great Wednesday and remember if it’s worth doing maybe it’s worth not doing,
