For the first time in a century there is thought to be a brown bear in the area around Chernobyl. I sure hope that the bear is in good health and stays that way. I can imagine a mystery novel that features a glow in the dark brown bear. Now that is a bit more rare than rain in Southern California and it rained last night and is supposed to be heavier in a couple of days but our bears are black bears and probably will not glow in the dark. Other exciting news was the discovery of a wolf in the Grand Canyon. Now it would be really exciting if there was a brown bear and a wolf. As a hiker I would not want to meet them in the canyon.
Another discovery was a 5000 year od stone ax with its wooden handle still attached. It was probably used for cutting down trees and perhaps to defend against wolves and glow in the dark brown bears. Who knows? There was a study of what dogs understand and how it is processed and some article about how wolves and wild cats have bigger brains than domesticated ones. Maybe that is the cost of living around humans. I am not sure how intelligent any of my animals were but none of them ever graduated from college. May you have a happy and healthy December.
