So many important happenings in our world. A new species of rat with a piglike snout, lower teeth and a long tail has been discovered. I was really glad to hear that. And it was really exciting to learn that a sheep in Australia that was running loose had several years of growth of wool and was sheared and the wool was over 80 pounds. I hope the sheep is happy now. And if that is not enough, I just read that the common ansester of all apes was not large but small like a gibbon. The more we learn the more complex our world seems. Just thougt of a new movie idea.. What if we were attacked by zombie pig snouted rats that were covered with over eighty pounds of tentacles all full of venomous fangs. It would of course be in 3D. Some of these thoughs occur when watching the political debates. Have a wonderful Novenber.
FOSSIL OF GIANT SEA BUG FOUND. NEW YORK TIMES STATES THAT IT WAS AS BIG AS TOM CRUISE
September 1, 2015 at 8:01 pm (Uncategorized)
It was found in Iowa and is about 460 million or more years old. BBC stated that it was up to two meters long . That is perhaps longer than Tom Curise. Then I read that the El Nino may be one of the biggest weather event ever or something like that. I hope it doesn’t cause a return of the giant water scorpions. Probably not. If that is not exciting enough a mollusk that had not been seen for three decade was seen in Papua New Guinea. Am thinking it might be a good time to put a new roof on my house. I do not thik any of these events has had an effect on the stock market. And , as always, there is good news, the panda cub is doing well and kittens of the rare Snow Lepoard are also in good condition. I wish everyone a most wonderful September.
WHEN IS A GOLDEN JACKAL NOT A GOLDEN JACKAL?
August 5, 2015 at 6:49 pm (Uncategorized)
Just read that the temperature had reached 122 degrees in Iraq this month. That made me feel bad for the peole there and glad that it is much cooler here in Los Angeles. Have finished my morning walk and am happy to hear that there is a new species of dog. The Golden Jackal of Africa is genetically closer to wolves than it is to the Eurasian Golden Jackal. And In California, there is a new sighting of a new wolf. I have not sighted any wolves on my walks but did see a small bulldog. The Philae lander on that comet has sent information that the coment contains material that are essential to the formation living matter. It is an amazing universe in which we live. Finally, Bonobos have speech patterns much like human babies. Have a great and for many I hope a cooler August.
DONALD TRUMP AND THE WOMBAT DIE OFF.
July 23, 2015 at 8:33 pm (Uncategorized)
Donald Trump is visiting the Texas border but that has nothing to do with the Bandicoots in Australia. Apparently mange is killing the marsupials. It is a problem that can be solved. Florida warned people to avoid armadillos as they can in rare cases cause human leprosy. Armadillo soup is not worth the risk. There are armadillos in Texas. And in another unrelated item there is a second mountain range on Pluto. That’s pretty good for what used to be a planet. So far no report on the presence of extraterrestial armadillos or bandicoots. Finally there is te discover of a possibley earth like planet, Kelper 252b. It’s a little bigger than the earth and revolves around it’s star in 485 days. And at the speed of light a probe would take 1,400 years. Even if we started today probably we will not live to see it. Finally there is a genetic link between some Amazonians and indigenous Australians. Agian this has nothing to do with Donald Truumps visit to the Texas Border.
MY NEW INTERNET MODEM, 11,500 YEAR OLD DENTAL WORK AND THE SEARCH FOR EXTRATERRESTAL LIFE
July 21, 2015 at 6:52 pm (Uncategorized)
Will I be able to join the search for extraterrestal life with my new and faster internet modem? Possibly they are reading this now. Much of the news is about Pluto. maybe in the future there will be ski resorts to take advantage of the 11,000 foot ice mountains. And what about much of the surface being very young? Beyond these amazing discoveries is the finding of dental work in an 11,500 year old tooth. Maybe that could be part of the information we beam into space. Also more on the thought of cloning the wooly mammoth. One scientist said that perhaps they could use a few of the genes to produce elephants that could live in colder climates. They would have more body fat and smaller ears. That would not be nearly as exciting as having massive herds in the new Wooly Mammoth World. Have a most wonderful July.
3.3 Million Year Old Stone Tool Found. Also 430,000 Year Old Homocide Victum Found. Are They Related?
June 10, 2015 at 6:08 pm (Uncategorized)
Now there seems to be quite a time gap between the two discoveries. But what if DNA were to be found fom the murder victum’s skull on the stone tool? Could the answer be time traveling by early early humans? Probably not but it could tie in with the discovery of 7 new species of tiny frogs found in the mountains of the Southern Brazil rainforest. Maybe the criminals tried to hide there and ate some of the tiny frogs which are poisonous and thus paid for their foul deeds. Just a though on this rather cool June morning. Also am happy to learn that the Hadron Collider is back up and running at twice the speed. Chimpanzees apparently steal an alcholic drink in Guinea. The villagers collected the sap from a palm tree in cups and it soon ferments. The chimps use a leaf to get some of the drink before the villagers collect it. Finally one study shows that rats are willing to share their food with other rats.
BLUE SUNSETS ON MARS
May 13, 2015 at 8:45 pm (Uncategorized)
Curiosity sent back beautiful pictures of a blue sunset on Mars. Still I am not ready to go there on a one way trip and, of course no one has asked. Mercury has frozen ice and a gravitational field which is the result og a molten iron core. \With a temperature rage of something like +400C to -300C it would be tough to grow evn drought resistant crops. And the heating and ir conditioning bills would be high. At the other extreme there is Pluto and it’s many moons. Can we revote and make Pluto a planet again? A good event may be the very large build up an el nino in the South Pacific. I guess it can be good or bad like much of life. One very positve happening was a man in Engliand who sneezed up a suction cup that had been lodged in his nasal passage for over 40 years. He thought he just suffered from allergies. That is really amazing.
VOLCANOES AND VEGETARIAN T-REX
May 3, 2015 at 9:09 pm (Uncategorized)
I cannot hep but wondering if the vegetarian relative of the T-Rex was ever bullied? And there was even more news on the dinosaur front. It seems that an early dinosaur flew without feathers. Will they one day discover a flying T-Rex? Just so they do not cone it. Speaking of what might be cloned, scientists are studying the bones of the last surviving wooly mammoths. They lasted until about 4,000 years ago. What new facts will be present next week? It is much cooler here today but I do not think this is a sign of global cooling. Just read that a great volcano of 1815 caused some clothes to freeze on the line the next summer in New England. Now there is the volcano in Chile and the under water one of the coast of Oregon. A while back I read that potentially the larget eruption ever could come from the Yellowstone Park area. But we are still here and it is a beautiful day in Los Angeles.
My front yard is now full of native California plants and home to many bees and butterflies. I think a pair of doves is building a nest in our tree which is fine with me but scares our dog. Now any dog would be scared of a volcano, a herd of wooly mammoths, or even a vegetarian T-Rex but a dove? Anyway she is a really sweet dog and trained as a dove hound. Have a wonderful May.
TARDIGRADES AND PYTHONS
April 7, 2015 at 9:27 pm (Uncategorized)
Am waiting for the rain on this cool Tuesday afternoon. Just read about a camel skeleton found in Austria. The article said that was about as usual as a ship wreck found in a desert. It was from the 17th century and probably a result of the Ottoman-Habsburg War. If we do not get more rain here a camel might become more useful now. It was a war camel and a hybrid between a two humped and one humped camel. It was bigger and more easy to control. I wonder if it got more miles per gallon of feed? Not connected to that is the large number of small eartquakes in Oklahoma.
Now about the pythons which are,of course in Florida. All the cute little animals are disappearing in the Everglades. What if this group of reptiles become so hungry that they form a big ball of slithering snakes and descend on populate areas. Maybe the small earthquakes will keep them out of Oklahoma. One animal that is doing very well is the tardigrade. it is a microscopic animal that has eight little legs. It has survived the vacuum of space, can live for ten years without food or water, almost absolute zero temperatures and boiling water. Now if it would only develop a taste for the pythons in the Everglades.
WILL THE A PPLE WATCH BRING FITNESS, HAPPINESS AND WORLD PEACE?
March 18, 2015 at 6:38 pm (Uncategorized)
Perhaps it will not. But will it make apple the first trillion dollar business? I will probably not wait in line to get one. I do not like to wait in lines and will wait to see how it works. As I was walking this morning pondering the meaning of life and remembering that it is not good to fall when you are old. actually it’s not good to fall even when you are young. Good news on the water front. Not in drought ridden California but on Mercury. There seems to be frozen water in craters that are hidden from the sun. Really strong solar pannels on Mercury might produce a lot of electricty but it would be hard to transport it to our grid. Every day seems to bring new information about our distant past. One article had pictures of jewelry that may have been worn by neanderthals as long as 150,000 years ago. It was made of talons of an eagle. No Apple Watches back then or atleast none found yet.
